Barrow winner must be the catalyst for final run-in insists Daly

Midfielder Matty Daly hopes his goal in Saturday’s triumph over Barrow can be the beginning of a strong run of form in the final nine matches of the season.

The Huddersfield Town loanee came off the bench to score the only goal 15 minutes from time. However, Town’s 28 admits he is keen to add to his tally.

“I think it was a goal that I needed for me personally. For the team it was great to pick up the three points and play my part in keeping the positive vibe around the place going.

“We have nine games remaining of the season and we want to keep that going for as long as we can.

“I had a tough period around Christmas with my injury, since then I have been trying to get up to speed to show the quality I had shown before I picked up that injury. Hopefully now, that goal can bring more between now and the end of the season.”

While the squad can be pleased with their performance and result in the match, Daly insists the group are keen to continue their run with a trip to Tranmere on the horizon.

“There is nine games left now and we have to keep our foot on the pedal. We go to Tranmere away on a Friday night which will be a good opportunity to play under the lights.

“It’s a great stadium to play at and if we perform to the levels we are capable of we are in a great position to get a positive result.”

Despite starting the match on the bench, Daly believes his preparation in recent weeks was key as he looks to maximise his opportunity.

“I have had to wait my turn and for the right moment to come. In training I have kept my head down and continued to work hard to make sure I was ready when the chance came along and thankfully I was.

“I set a marker at the start of the season. I wanted to try and hit double figures this season and that goal helps me move a step closer to achieving that aim.”

Reflecting on his time in the yellow & black, the midfielder is keen to end the campaign strongly after enjoying a strong season in Harrogate.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I had a really good start of the season and I managed to score six goals. I’m a bit frustrated with my injury as I felt I could carry my momentum on until the end of the season.

“However, that’s football and it’s all about how you come back. Hopefully, that goal the other day can help me to move in to the final nine games. I want to help this team in whatever way I can and whether that be through goals or assists so hopefully we can end the season strongly.”
