“We came out fighting and got what we deserved.” – Falkingham after Barrow battle 👊

18/03/23

Club captain Josh Falkingham believes the fighting spirit shown by the side was key as they battled their way to three points this afternoon against Barrow.

The midfielder insists that this spirit will be important in the final nine matches of the season.

“After last week’s disappointment, we were determined to come out on top. It was a big day and another important game for us but we came out fighting and got what we deserved.

“It was a really good performance. I hope the fans saw the fight we had within us and they have gone home really happy.

“If we can keep showing that level of fight and passion between now and the end of the season then I believe we will start picking up more positive results.

The quick reaction of Town’s number four was key in Matty Daly’s strike on 74 minutes but Falkingham insists the praise must go to his team mates.

“During the first half, I think Barrow bought a couple of free-kicks which is part of football, all you ask is for consistency and I am glad the referee showed that. I believe that it was a free-kick. I have managed to find Mullers in a bit of space.

“He has shown his quality and picked out Matty Daly and he has put it away brilliantly. It was a huge moment for us and we’re absolutely delighted.”

With Matty Daly providing the only goal of the match, the Town captain highlighted the contributions made by the second half substitutes.

“You can see the lads who came in during the January window seem to be getting stronger and stronger as the games go on. Levi was alongside me and I thought he was brilliant here today.

“Obviously, I have a relationship with Patto. He came on and gave us a lot more energy going forward which was really pleasing. We all know the quality he has but today he, alongside many others, managed to show that quality.”

After a disappointing result against Crawley, the midfielder was quick to praise the character the squad showed to return to winning ways this afternoon.

“For me, it’s important that we have that dig and drive as a group. Speaking personally, playing for this club means so much to me and to the rest of the lads.

“There was a lot of disappointment in the camp last week but I think we showed the character we have here to bounce back and show our quality.”

However, with a week’s break, the 32-year-old insists the squad will not drop their levels of intensity during training.

“I spoke before about keeping that calmness around the place. We have to show that now and keep taking every game as it comes. We can’t relax or take our foot off the gas with this break. We have to keep at it every single day to continue to improve in the weeks ahead.”
