U21s Put Eight Past i2i Yellow

03/03/20

U21s 8-0 Tadcaster Albion i2i ISA (Yellow)

This week Tadcaster Albion i2i ISA (Yellow) were the visitors to The CNG Stadium as the young U21s side looked to continue their fine run of form and keep the momentum going after last week’s excellent result against second place Hemsworth.

With captain Cam Latimer still on the treatment table and top scorer Charlie Anderson also on the side-lines there was a recall to the starting line-up for Gabe Humphries and a home debut for Lucas Sefton at left back.

Brimming with confidence after recent weeks, the U21s started brightly and firmly on the front foot creating some excellent chances which should have got Town in the scoreboard early. On 13 minutes Town got their noses in front as Humphries was fouled in the box with his strike partner Harry Boyer dispatching the resulting penalty. Within four minutes Boyer had doubled his tally for the night and given Town some early breathing space.

A third followed for Town as Humphries was the next to get his name on scoresheet, this was followed up by a quick-fire double from winger Harley Lambert with two fine strikes to leave Town five up at the break with i2i unable to get any kind of momentum with the constant pressure from the Harrogate youngsters.

As the heavens opened at the start of the second half Town looked to stamp their authority again on the game to put paid to any hope of a comeback from the visitors.

Within three minutes of the restart Humphries had his second of the night as his walked the ball into the net leaving a trail of defenders as well as the keeper sat on the Wetherby Road turf. He then competed his hat trick on 55 minutes to cap a fine performance and return to form.

With Town now constantly camped in the i2i half and pressure mounting again the final goal of the evening saw centre back Ben Barker rise highest from a Town corner to bury his header firmly past the visiting keeper.
Final score 8-0 to the Town youngsters. A fine all-round team performance. While the forwards will grab the headlines the ground work done by the impenetrable back four and the hard-working midfield set the foundations for and well deserved three points.

With no game next week due to the County Cup semi-final and a free week following, the young Town team can recharge the batteries as we head into the final part of the season.
