Girls take part in gala at cng stadium

24/02/20

On Sunday 23rd February The CNG Stadium played host to an U7/8/9 girls gala, which saw Town’s U8 Girls PDC play in their first ever tournament. The girls were super excited before they even kicked a ball.

Town had five matches to play throughout the morning. First up - Town played Leyburn, an end to end game was a fabulous way to start the day off, and it got even better when Town went 1-0 up with a great solo goal from Tilly. Unfortunately, Town were to concede three quick fire goals.

Next, Town played a strong Pannal Sports (Green) team who got the better of possession and grabbed a two goal lead. As Town grew into the game, they got caught on the counter attack and conceded a third goal.

The 3-0 loss wasn’t to down hearten the girls in any way, as next up was Pannal Sports (black), with Town out of the block quickest, and scoring an early goal through Abigail. Town were to push on from the first goal, grabbing a second through a great finish from Tilly, quickly followed by a second from Abigail.

Town’s fourth game saw them come up against Skipton, and this was to be one of the matches of the tournament. Skipton started off the brightest, scoring twice in the first minute. Town showed great determination to get back into the match, with Abigail getting two goals to draw Town level. This wasn’t to be the end of the entertainment as Town went into the lead for the first time in the game with Abigail grabbing her hattrick, but Town’s celebrations didn’t last long, as Skipton grabbed an equaliser with the last kick of the game.

Town’s final match saw them face a Scotton Scorchers side, who took an early two goal lead. The Town girls were determined as ever to get back into the game with the first goal coming through some great build up play with Tilly scoring with her weaker left foot. This wasn’t to be the last for Town as Abigail managed to squeeze in an equaliser in the final moments of the game.

Overall the girls were excellent throughout the tournament, and it was a fabulous experience from them as this was their first time playing competitively.

Town: Abigail Thompson, Ellie Lawrence, Ruby Walkes, Tilly Inman and Grace Luscombe
