Town are making 'good progress' in transfer market believes Kerry

30/05/23

Head of Player Recruitment Lloyd Kerry believes Town are making good progress in our bid to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Earlier this week, midfielder Matty Daly returned to the club on a two-year deal and Kerry remains positive on the club’s chances of further adding to the squad in the coming weeks.

He said: “We’re pleased with where we are. Obviously, we have signed Matty Daly and we have another two deals which are looking good. If we can get them done then that will be another welcomed boost to the squad.

“Every club would like to get their business done early but that isn’t always possible. Players and agents will be weighing up the options they have in front of them so we’ll have to be patient.”

However, despite this progress, the 34-year-old insists the club will not take their foot off the gas.

He added: “We are in a competitive market and it’s still very early on. We have a list of targets who we are keen to pursue and we have made early moves for some of the players on that list.

“We aren’t fixed to that list, if the right player comes up at the right age then we will look to get something done. It’s important that we get the balance right between youth and EFL experience.

“We’ll be looking across the board really. The main aim is that the players we bring in improve the squad. In some instances, it could be that we aren’t too sure on the players who are available in that moment.

“That’s where patience comes into it because it may be the case that players of a higher calibre could become available to us later in the window as well.”

With the hard work going on behind the scenes, Kerry believes communication is key in the ever-changing transfer market.

He said: “Myself, Thirs and the Gaffer are in constant communication. It’s that time of year where a lot of names are thrown around but we have a plan. If we are to consider a player who comes up then we have to all be in agreement.”
