Town U8/9 Academy 19 - 0 York City
On the evening of Friday 13th December, Town’s U8/9 Academy side took on York City at Rossett Sports Centre.
A solid start from Town saw us take an early lead through some great build up play before two excellent finishes from Bobby Haveron. Henry Wardle would then grab a quick hattrick with a couple of great strikes from distance. Town grew into the game whilst keeping possession of the ball, on a wet and windy evening. Freddie White then grabbed his first of the game just before the end of the first quarter. Town were to make some changes at the break, which caused York a few problems. Ted Smithering produced a great finish on his left foot, this was followed up with two goals from Jenson Sumner. Unfortunately for York they found themselves another goal down through an own goal, which was quickly followed by a brilliant finish from Sam Stalker.
At the halfway point Town found themselves 11 - 0 up, whilst still playing some brilliant football and playing out from defence. Mike Berezivska was next on the score sheet, whilst trailing for the team. White then rounded off his hattrick with two quick fire goals. In the final quarter Town kept on pushing forward with Freddie Pickering, Jonny Higgins and Archie Davy all grabbing a goal whilst Haveron got his fourth of the game. Town played some great football despite the horrendous conditions, rounding off 2019 with a dominant performance.

Town started well and had an early goal when Danny Wilson struck a powerful effort under the keeper. Town then hit five goals in 15 minutes plus a 15 minute hat-trick for trialist Elliot Summers. Tom Robson (another Town trialist) added the other two with his first the pick of the goals. Beating two players he finished into the far corner. Harry Mills added Town’s sixth just before halftime.
Robson, Wilson and trialist Ben Marshall added three more goals to Town’s tally after half time. Joel Barker was next to score, continuing his impressive scoring form with a brilliant volley from inside the box. Town U12/13’s 13-3 York City U12/13’s
Town’s U12/13’s got back to playing 11 a side this week and the jump back up from nine a side didn’t faze them at all, running out very dominant 13-3 winners against a talented York side.
York took the lead in an open first 10 minutes where chances were coming thick and fast for both teams. Going a goal down didn’t affect how Harrogate played and they reacted fantastically, to dominating the ball and tempo of the game. Town drew level through Donnie Green who went through on goal and finished brilliantly from a tight angle. Donnie then went on to score three more within the first half added by two from the dangerous Murray Brierley resulting in Harrogate finishing the half 6-1 up.
The second half started how the first finished with Harrogate on top and dominating the game. The boys were playing with a real intensity with sharp passes spreading the play and always looking to play forward. Wide players were constantly attacking their fullback and causing so many issues noticeably Charley Parker who was a constant threat the whole evening. Goals in the second half coming from: Andrew Todd, Murray Brierley, William Todd, Charley Parker (2) and two more from Donnie Green.
The goals in which the academy boys conceded came from a lack in concentration and decision making at the back which I cannot be too annoyed at considering I have asked the boys to try play from the back however the boys need to understand that full concentration is needed no matter the score or time in the game. The fundamentals need to be right for the entire game. Overall this was a brilliant performance from the team and one I was proud of and they should be too.
Town: Harry Manterfield, William Todd, Henry Straker, Isaac Harris, Ollie Saltmarsh, George Meaking, Asim Fiaz, Andrew Todd, Charley Parker, Murray Brierley, Donnie Green, Charlie Moss

Town U12/13’s 15-0 COFE U12s
The Harrogate Town U12/13’s academy went up against COFE and comfortably dominated the game from start to finish running out 15-0 winners.
The game was played again at nine-a-side meaning a difference in shape and how we play from 11 vs 11, this change however didn’t affect the boys due to them being at ease at 9 aside from previous years. The academy boys played the game on the front foot and played at high temp throughout causing a lot of problems down both wings with chance after chance being created through William and Andrew Todd.
This game highlighted our attacking options and talent at this age group, with fast and free flowing attacking play and movements from all of them. The team was playing in triangles which we had worked on the past few weeks in training so this was pleasing to see that the boys had taken the practice from training into the game.
The goals came from: Henry Straker, Donnie Green (4), William Todd (2), Murray Brierley (2), James Rennocks (3), Andrew Todd (2), Ollie Saltmarsh
Town: Harry Manterfield, Charlie Moss, Henry Straker, Isaac Harris, Ollie Saltmarsh, Andrew Todd, Charley Parker, William Todd, Donnie Green, James Rennocks, Murray Brierley, George Meaking
