U17s 4-1 Bradford City

22/11/19

With their Garforth League game postponed for the second week running due to the weather, Town U17's played Bradford City U16's at their Academy facility.

Bradford had the early spells of possession looking very calm on the ball while Town uncharacteristically struggled to keep hold of the ball.

There were few chances in the early stages with Gabe Hopkinson having Town’s best after a passing move that started with Bailey Calvert in the Town goal - after five quick passes, Hopkinson found space in the City box but couldn't beat the angle dragging his shot just wide.

With Bradford Still having the share of possession it was Town that broke the deadlock lock. After Joe Navier and Malaki Mason worked together to press and win the ball back, Mason cut inside and found the bottom corner.

Hopkinson had the best chance of the half when he found himself one on one with the keeper shortly after the goal, but the Bradford keeper got down brilliantly and turned his shot wide.

The second half started like the first with Bradford having the ball, Lewis Dobson and U16 Shadow Squad player Joe Gordon both defending very well to limit the Bradford chances.

It was however Bradford that managed to level the game when Town didn't clear their lines after a ball into the box the ball was finished under Calvert.

Town got a foothold in the game and started to make some good chances. Second half sub Joe Gosling was put through with a great ball by Harry Lee, finishing low past the keeper into the far corner to put Town back in front.

Town continued to push with both Navier and Gosling looking dangerous down both sides. A blocked shot/cross from Gosling looped in the air and found Mason backpost to add his second.

Gosling finished off the scoring when he won the ball back high from the Bradford centre back, rounded the keeper and tapped it in to round off a good overall performance.
