'Daly signing can be the catalyst for more recruits' - Kerry

29/05/23

Head of Player Recruitment, Lloyd Kerry, hopes the signing of Matty Daly can be the catalyst in the club’s quest to strengthen our ranks ahead of the new campaign.

The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Town, put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal earlier and Kerry is delighted to secure his services.

He said: “It’s a really good signing for us. Last season, Matty managed to score eight goals from midfield. It’s important to remember that he had a spell out with injury so that is a very good return.

“We’re happy we’ve got this deal done early and hopefully this can be the catalyst to add a few more signings in the coming weeks.”

Speaking on the club’s pursuit of Daly, Kerry is delighted to have the deal wrapped up shortly after the midfielder’s release from Huddersfield Town.

He said: “We are delighted to sign Matty on a permanent basis. We knew a few weeks ago that he would be available on a free transfer and from there we moved pretty quickly.

“As a club, we know all about Matty and the quality which he has. He has goals in him, he proved that last year by popping up with some important contributions from midfield.”

With the club continuing to find success in the loan market during the previous campaign, the 34-year-old believes this deal is a sign of the pull which the club has.

“He enjoyed his time on loan and that put us in a good position. We’re happy we’ve got this deal done early. It’s a competitive market which we are in. However, we will always look to do whatever we can to entice players to come here.

“Matty is only 22, he is still developing and we believe he can become a big asset for this club.”
