Martin Powell - Reflecting on his time on the touchline

11/05/20

Although his time in the hot seat may have been cut short by the ongoing global pandemic, Ladies first team caretaker manager Martin Powell has reflected on his time within the ladies setup at Harrogate Town.

“Firstly, I would just like to thank the Ladies Media Assistant Isaac Martin for giving me the opportunity to place on record my time at Harrogate Town ladies, one that I look back on with fond memories.

I’ve followed the ladies progress from the beginning when the side was first formed, my wife signed for Town as their goalkeeper so every Sunday was taken up traveling the length and breadth of Yorkshire and then the North East to support the girls. It was great to see the league titles they collected, and the various cup runs they went on, eventually I was kindly asked by Jon and Ben if I’d like to become part of their coaching staff. Naturally, I said yes and helped at training sessions as well as match day and the preparation leading up to it.

Jon and Ben eventually moved on and I was asked to take over as caretaker manager to guide the team through the final part of this season, unfortunately due to what’s happening at the moment we only played three games but I felt during my time I got a lot out of the players and felt that I helped develop them both individually and collectively.

It’s definitely the right time for me to move on although I will still be involved at Town coaching at the girls PDC and attending the men’s fixtures on a Saturday. It’s a great club to be at and I wish Bob Wilkinson the best of luck going forward and wherever the careers of the players I’ve worked with takes them I wish them all the luck in the world''

The club would like to wish Martin all the best in the future and look forward to welcoming Bob Wilkinson for the 2020/21 season.
