Ladies 8-0 York City

12/11/19

A sunny afternoon at The CNG Stadium and Town Ladies welcome York CIty Ladies for part two in the North Yorkshire Derby double header, following the previous weeks 3-1 Town victory over in York.

York City were quickest out of the blocks, though Town's back four coped well with the early pressure. Town's midfield began to dominate however, and incisive through balls from Beth Clayton and  Beth Davies started to create problems for York, with Hollie Smith and Rosie Gill causing problems down both flanks.

One such move led to the first goal with Sophie Tinson latching on to a superb cross from Gill and sweeping the ball into the net.

Town now settled into their rhythm with both Lindsey Whitton and Clayton both going close, followed by a powerful effort from Gill that flew past the post.

Clayton was next to go close with a header but it would be Tinson who completed a mesmerising dribble past the York defence before playing a pin point cross to Gill who finished with a stinging drive past the keeper.

The pressure continued at the York end with the goalkeeper called into action to make a number of good saves, but it was only a question of time before Town would strike again.

This time it would be defender turned centre forward Whitton who latched onto an exquisite through ball from Grace Foyer and drove the ball fiercely into the bottom corner of the net.

Today however would be “Topshot Tinson’s” day - injured early in the game she was desperate to carry on and received further reward in the 42nd minute when she rounded the keeper to make it 4-0.

After a shaky start Town were now in total control and within three minutes of the restart Tinson had the ball in the net to complete her hat trick.

Tinson was then substituted along with the hard working Smith and an opportunity for Grace Adams and Em Crispin to join the party.

Whitton, Adams and Foyer all went close before another clutch of substitutions saw Rachel McDonald and Beth Davies replaced by Elisha James and debutant Beth Jennings.

Jennings first touch was a well hit goal bound volley well blocked by the York defence, but she didn’t have to wait long for recompense.

A four player move involving Georgia Marsden, Adams, Whitton and Gill ended with a dangerous cross which fell to Jennings lurking at the back post to sweep the ball into the net.

Whitton was then substituted for Becky Davies and within two minutes of joining the action, Davies lashed a fierce 30 yard volley into the top corner of the net - another contender for goal of the season and Town now rampant.

With minutes to go York were still working hard for each other and a quality counter attack required Kelly Jackson to tip a 20 yard drive round the post.

From the corner that followed Town cleared there lines and with a quick fire breakaway, Crispin was on hand to volley into the net.

8-0 the final score and an impressive performance by Town Ladies which augurs well for tough forthcoming fixtures against Hartlepool, Redcar, Ossett and Farsley - likely to have a significant bearing on the direction of this seasons Premier League Champions - bring it on!

Beth Clayton was awarded player of the game for another tenacious performance in the Town midfield.
