HTAFC Ladies 1 Farsley Celtic 2

10/09/19

They do say a week is a long time in politics and you could say the same about football!

Only a week ago Town Ladies were fast out of the traps scoring a goal as early as the first minute, and this week a lethargic opening from Town gifted an early penalty for Farsley, and Town were 1-0 down and fighting an uphill battle.

The game itself was evenly matched with both sides creating openings with Town particularly strong down the right flank with Wilson working well with Gill.

However, last week Town had been deadly in the box, this week against a resilient Farsley defence they would find it much tougher to break the opposition down.

The first half finished with a flurry of Town corners but all to no avail.

The second half and indeed the game itself was to swing on a crucial sixty seconds. A sweeping 5 player move involving Beth Clayton, Beth Davies, Rosie Gill and Sophie Tinson created a clear cut chance for Grace Adams, but her shot flew just over the bar.

From the restart Farsley cleared up to the other end - no danger seemed to be in sight as Lindsey Whitton passed back to Kelly Jackson-Powell, but her clearance fell to Pilmer who returned the ball with interest, lobbing the ball back over the keepers head and into an empty net.

This seemed to wake Town up and for the last 25 minutes, bar a couple of Farsley breakaways, it was one way traffic.

The pressure finally produced results with Whitton heading home from close range and the Town Ladies then laid siege to the Farsley goal, with two goal line clearances the closest they came to scoring.

The final whistle brought things to a conclusion, and a defeat that Town will undoubtedly take lessons from.
