Ladies in Local FA Cup Action this Sunday

29/08/19

Following an impressive pre-season campaign where Harrogate Town Ladies picked up three wins out of four fixtures, this weekend marks the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

And what an exciting way to start with a local derby in the FA Cup First Preliminary Round against Wetherby Athletic Ladies this Sunday September 1st at the Wetherby Ings.

“We’ve had a very encouraging preseason - except for Grace Foyer’s injury (don’t worry, she is on the mend), everything has gone exceptionally well!” stated Ladies Director of Football Ged Maloney.

“Our three new signings, Rosie Gill, Emily Crispin and Beth Davies have all slotted in well and have already created a strong impression that they will have a positive impact on the team this season.

“This pre-season has been the best by a country mile, our team has never been better prepared for a campaign and we can't wait for this Sundays FA Cup fixture.”

When asked about a favourite moment of the recently concluded pre-season campaign, Ged was adamant it was one piece of off field news that was a real highlight for him.

“The news that Grace Foyer could, I repeat could, be back playing within the next 4-6 weeks would definitely be a highlight, and a close second would be the return of Becky Wilson and Lindsey Whitton. Also, finally a close third would be the three new signings which I’ve already mentioned!”

Moving onto this week’s action, the Head of Women’s Football was clearly very excited by the prospect of local match to kick off the season.

“I am as excited about the Women’s FA Cup as I am about the Men’s and the thought of a local derby makes it even more exciting.

“On paper we are favourites, but based on one of my favourite moments, I can assure you that we will not be in the remotest bit complacent and that’s the magic of the FA Cup!”

Ged continued “I’ve got two favourite moments of the world’s oldest sporting competition as a fan; one was watching my son Jonathan play for Harrogate Town in the FA Cup for the first time and the second would be the epic Leeds United vs Sunderland Final. I am hoping we will create another "moment" this coming weekend!!”

Harrogate Town Ladies’ first game of the season will take place at the Wetherby Ings (LS22 5FN) and will kick off at 2pm.
