It was a monumental day on Saturday 21st May for the Harrogate Town Community Foundation Towner Runners group, as they took over the Harrogate 5k Park Run.
The run was held on the Stray in Harrogate and organised by the Town running group, that now has over 50 members.
Runners gathered at the Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation hut at 8.30am, ready for the 9am start. The turnout for the run was magnificent, with over 400 keen runners of all abilities taking part.
For Town Runner and the Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing Officer, Steve Pattison, it was a special day for himself and the running group…
“It was a big day for us. About three years ago we started Town Runners and we’ve moved on from a small group of six or seven to having nearly 50 runners in a group. On Saturday we took on the Harrogate Park Run which was a big, big thing for us.
“We’ve been very lucky to have Jeff Walker join Town Runners as one of our run leaders and he’s huge in the running community in Harrogate. Jeff suggested taking over the Park Run and get not just the running group but the Community Foundation into the wider audience in Harrogate. We took the challenge on and today we’ve probably got over 30 runners of ours that are marshalling and a good few more out there actually doing the event.
“Running is an amazing way to get out there and it doesn’t matter whether you’re the fastest or slowest, it’s just about being out there and doing it. For us at Town Runners, the key is the finish line, not the finish time. That’s what’s on our running shirts. We’re a big part of the running community In Harrogate and there’s a space for every runner, in every group, in every town.”
