Meet Chloe Hickson! One of our community coaches who found out about the opportunity to work with the Community Foundation through the Kickstart Scheme. Chloe plays a big part in delivering our Premier League Primary Stars programme and she also coaches the Harrogate Town Ladies u17s! We sat down to chat with Chloe to find out a little bit more about her role.
How did you find out about Kickstart and how has it helped you get work with the Foundation?
I first off started delivering wildcat sessions, I then saw that there was a kickstart opportunity available and I thought that this would be a good beginning for me to deliver more sessions and gain more experience.
What has your role been at the Foundation?
My role has been a community coach which involves me delivering and assisting Premier League Primary Stars, Reading Stars and delivering after school clubs within many different schools.
Working in schools: What have you learned by doing it and what do you enjoy about it?
Within just six months of my kickstart, I feel very comfortable to plan and deliver high quality P.E sessions and also to help teachers understand how to deliver high quality lessons to the students. I really enjoy the opportunity to meet so many different students and making sure that all pupils are thriving and having fun.
I’ve had many comments from teachers within schools across Harrogate on how pupils behaviour and confidence have changed massively from the start of delivery. I’ve also seen these changes myself with the majority of kids that I have seen.
Do you feel like you’ve grown as a person from undertaking the role?
I really do feel I’ve come on a lot. I never thought that I could lead a full class of students all with different ability’s and different year groups, all while being able to ensure that all are engaged and enjoying it.
Coaching the u17s Harrogate Town Ladies team: How did that come about and what do you enjoy about it?
The opportunity came at the right time as I was looking into coaching a grassroots football team and this was the perfect opportunity. Seeing the girls develop and becoming more confident is the best thing about it. It amazes me to see the pathway setup that these girls can develop onto and to be a part of the development of the girls is brilliant.
What opportunities are you looking for in the future and what goals do you have?
I want to gain as much knowledge and experience in coaching as possible, as well as gain many more qualifications so I know for future I can expand on delivering in many different areas.
