On Tuesday 8
th March, Year 5 and 6 boys’ team from St Mary’s Catholic School in Knaresborough represented Harrogate Town AFC at the Utilita Kid’s Cup 2022 hosted by Foundation92.
The school played against other League Two teams including Bradford City, Barrow and Salford City. Overall the team played 11 fixtures, after finished with a record of 7 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. Harrogate Town AFC (St Mary’s Catholic School) finished 4
th out of 12 in the main round, meaning they qualified for the semi-finals against Tranmere Rovers.
The semi-final was a very tense match with both teams having a number of chances. The Tranmere goalkeeper in particular made some outstanding saves to keep the contest goalless before their striker managed to snatch the winner with two minutes left on the clock.
In the third place play off, Harrogate played Salford and were victorious, winning 2-1 to finish the tournament in 3
rd place. An amazing achievement from the team!
